SKATE PARK

The aim of the Skate Park project is to engage the Youth in a project that is of particular benefit to them.  Outside of School Hours Care Co-ordinator, Teena Chappell  has been working with the 13 - 15 year children in the location and design of a modular skate park system.    Teena has an open dialogue with the local youth encouraging input and involvement throughout the process - these youngesters have developed a sense of ownership and pride for the proposed project.  Modular systems allow us to start with a very low budget and continually add sections as funds are raised.  A dedicated skate park area has been identified by the local youth and is in line with the Richmond Sport and Recreation Recommendation Number 22 "Establish a new recreation park in the northern part of Richmond"

The Richmond Skate Park Project is now open for use.  This project is a joint iniatitive of the Federal Government and the Richmond Shire Council .  This project is expected to grow as funding becomes available to increase not only the skate park but to include shade, a bike path and BMX track.  Teena is currently planning a tree planting day and more information will be provided shortly.

Due to storm damage on 28 November the large half pipe has had to be removed from the skate park. Council is aiming to make repairs and return it early in the new year.
